SSB National Championship Update
The cream is rising to the top early.
Russ Cornwell, the man who shot the first recorded 300 in SSB history, is atop the Midwest leaderboard and leads the nation with an average of 242.70. Cornwell, of Cedar Rapids IA also shot one of five 300 games during the first week of qualifying.
Midwest players put up three of the top four highest averages. Only Charles Whalley playing out of the Northeast cracked the top 3.
Besides Cornwell’s 300, perfectos were shot by Dan Bailey, Ben Pilgreen, Joe Kostelnik, and Christopher Beverly.
"What an astounding first week!" said SSB Nationals tournament director Dan Schrementi. "29 players have already shot their required 100 games. The scores look strong but there’s a long way to go. It’s going to be an exciting 6 weeks!"
