National Leaders

With 26 days remaining in the first-ever Silver Strike Bowling National Championship 275 players have already shot their 100-game minimum.  But with 800 spots "in-the-money" that still leaves plenty of room for more qualifiers.

“We’re amazed that so many players have qualified already,” said tournament director, Dan Schrementi.  "That’s an average of five games per day!"

The Midwest tops the national leaderboards with four of the top five qualifiers. Matt Kisling of Cedar Rapids tops the nation with a 274.99 average.  He’s shot three 300’s in his qualifying total.  He’s still followed by fellow Cedar Rapids pro Mike Cornwell who now trails by over 1,000 pins.

It’s closer in the Northeast where Charles Whalley of Indianapolis leads the pack.  He’s only 505 sticks ahead of Joe Kostelnik, who plays out of Bowling Green OH.  Joe picked up 212 pins during the past week.

The Southeast saw Joshua Myers, who plays out of Largo FL, pick up over 500 pins on leader Chris Beverly of Conway SC.  He now trails by only 487 pins.

The West is by far the closest battle with Kevin Bonney of Omaha struggling to maintain the top spot.  His lead is a paper-thin 12 sticks over Houston’s Steven "Sonny" Tunstall.

“These final three weeks are going to be wild,” Schrementi said.  "With 26 perfectos bowled in 20 days the caliber of play is off the charts.  We’re looking forward to a great live final in Vegas!"
