Most spend years looking to hit a 300-game. It's become the achievement that bowlers set their sights on and hope that one day when the stars align, they will be able to nail 12 consecutive strikes and join the virtual bowling elite.
Cedar Rapids native Mike Cornwell and Sheboygan's Lloyd McFarland are not your average bowlers. They each have more 300-games than they can count on both hands and feet. These two have also proved to be two of the game's premier players and have been major factors in some of the game's biggest tournaments. Because of this, these two are constantly vying for an achievement 3-times that of a 300-game.
The 900 Series.
The 900 Series is without question the most amazing feat that can be done with a trackball. Three consecutive 300-games is something that seems laughable to most, but it has been done. In fact, there were two players that accomplished this feat while playing Silver Strike Bowler's Club.
In Silver Strike LIVE, however, there have been no signs of a 900-series. That was until both McFarland (pictured on top) and Cornwell (bottom) nearly accomplished this feat within a matter of days.
McFarland had his opportunity and started off with two consecutive 300s. He then began the third game by ripping of strike after strike, until he got robbed on two throws.
Lloyd ended up finishing the game with a 258, totaling 858 for the series. Lloyd stayed hot this entire session, ending up with three 300-games and a 298 in a matter of fifteen games! Another worthy item of note was the fact that Lloyd rolled a 270 the game before his near 900-series started, and he totaled 39 consecutive strikes throughout this time!
Cornwell who says he's battled a bit of a rough streak of late, started his series off perfect as well, ripping off two 300s. Similar to McFarland, however, Mike ran into trouble in the 5th frame of game three and totaled a spare.
This was his only blemish as he finished with an impressive 878 throughout the three games! Like McFarland, Cornwell capped off an epic run by nailing two more 300s – totaling four perfectos in a thirteen-game stretch!
While these two came up just short of an absolute monster of an achievement, their amazing stretches certainly deserve recognition. Congratulations, gentlemen and here's to continued success going forward!
Close call, but the race for the first 900 on Silver Strike Live is still up for grabs! The question remains, who will be the first?
Stay tuned to find out!
